Florez (Indie film producer), Ciara Leinaʻala Lacy (Made in Hawaiʻi Grand Jury winner for OUT OF STATE), Jeannette Paulson-Hereniko (Producer, THE LAND HAS EYES, and founding director of HIFF), Victoria Keith (Camerawoman and news producer, THE SAND ISLAND STORY), Anne Misawa (Cinematographer, UH Mānoa ACM Professor) Heather Haunani Giugni (Producer, FAMILY INGREDIENTS, Founder of ʻUluʻulu: The Henry Ku‘ualoha Giugni Moving Image Archive of Hawai‘i)—represent pioneering filmmakers as they recount their role, philosophy, challenges and triumphs in building the Hawai‘i film industry and telling unique local stories through a camera lens.

Gere shares various tales of forgiveness through live storytelling enhanced with video projections, collage imagery, & an audio bed.

Down On the Sidewalk in Waikīkī is a narrative short film inspired by a collection of poetry published posthumously featuring the work of Hawaiian poet Wayne Kaumualii Westlake (1947-84).

As a loose adaptation of his work, this short narrative film seeks to carry forward Wayne Kaumualii Westlake’s voice and perspective, sharing the depth and breadth of his poetry through the magic of cinema. Starring HB19 artists Imaikalani Kalahele.

Directed and Produced by Native Hawaiian filmmaker Justyn Ah-Chong.

Admission is $10 General, Under 18 FREE.

TRANSPARENCY: Plastic Awareness Screening & Discussion

REEL / NIGHTS:

TRANSPARENCY is a performance art video which aims to represent the struggle experienced by marine life due to the abundance of plastic waste in the world’s oceans. This work features original movement and music by local pianist, Monika Haar, and was produced along with her visual artist parents, Yoko & Tom Haar.

The eight-minute video will be followed by a panel discussion on plastic, as well as the importance of supporting creative ways to express environmental issues during this time when our global landscape is at great risk.

Gold Mandala Project presents NEXUS, a meditative journey towards alchemical wholeness, transforming pain into beauty. This 11-minute art film was shot at Nanakuli caves and incorporates meditative dance choreography set to original music (piano and vocals) amidst a sea soundscape.  Followed by a talk story with Gold Mandala Project: Joy Agner, Andrew Binkley and Emily Lau, moderated by artist Nanci Amaka.
